Expandable garden hoses consist of two or three layers, the inner layer of good qualities being made of real latex, which in turn consists of up to 12 own layers. This inner latex tube is covered with other layers of PVC and high-fiber polyester fabric, which makes the garden hose extremely robust, tear-resistant and durable. Cheap qualities are usually only two layers and it is used instead of high-priced real latex and tear-resistant polyester only cheap silicone and thin polyester fabric. The lifespan of these cheap supermarket flex garden hoses is extremely limited and therefore worth the look “behind the scenes” here.
What to consider before buying a wonder hose
The build quality, and especially the materials used and processed, are ultimately the two key factors that determine the best expandable garden hose and the quality of this lifestyle product. If the inner hose of the flexible garden hose is made of real latex, the hose consists of 3 or even 4 layers and if the polyester used has sufficient fiber strength, then it is usually a quality product with corresponding labeling.

Good polyester qualities start at 450D; If a 600D, 2500D or even 5000D polyester quality is used, then it is a first quality product and such an expandable garden hose should be considered for purchase. Unlike polyester, where oil is used as a raw material, latex is a product that is made from the natural raw material natural rubber and mainly comes from Thailand, Malaysia or Indonesia. There are 2 methods of preparation, the so-called ‘Dunlop method’, a vulcanization process with water vapor at around 100 ° C, the most commonly used method. Latex made of several layers is the ideal material for the inner hose of the flexible garden hose, but sometimes has production-related defects that are not recognized by the scanner during quality control.
